My thesis and capstone summation after several years of work at Maryland Institute College of Art's GD MFA program. New Composition, the title of my thesis, is an exploratory cathartic catalogue of a person's psyche through the guise of sculpture, motion and typography.
I started my research into this thesis incredibly interested in a different way of thinking about poster design. I inevitably decided to question what my assumption of a poster even was. An information device? A collection of words and letters? A canvas for what ever I want it to be?
As time progressed, this project became more about how I was feeling and the anxiety I was getting from isolation. A bulk of this project existed during the Pandemic, so naturally I started to inject my personal feelings into what I was making.
The summation of my project came down to an 80 page book, titled "New Composition". What originally started as an exploratory process into the meaning and use of posters, ultimately turned into an outlet of creation and self-soothing during the height of the 2020 pandemic.
